After Linden Labs announced that they’re making the Second Life Viewer open source (just the viewer, not the internal workings of SL itself) it’s great fun to watch a bit of advance speculation. The BBC’s Click! site has a very good feature on Second Life focusing on the recent troubles with Grey Goo and CopyBot. It’s dated 15 December, so there’s an amusing moment in the video interview where Mike Butcher speculates about the potential open sourcing of SL, and Jim Purbrick of Linden Labs gives nothing away.
Who knows, perhaps a lightweight, user-friendly SL interface will come along one day?
